History of the Electric City Flower Show

The Electric City Flower Show is a free annual community event celebrating flowers, creativity, and collaboration in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Held at Nay Aug Park and the Everhart Museum, the show brings together gardeners, artists, vendors, and visitors for a day that blends nature, art, and community.

About the Electric City Flower Show

The Electric City Flower Show grew from founder Carol Deeley’s love of community gardening. Inspired by the flower shows of her youth in England, where families shared blooms, tips, and friendly competition, Carol wanted to bring that same sense of connection to Scranton.

After volunteering at the Greenhouse Project and the Butterfly Garden at Nay Aug Park, she saw an opportunity to help the community reconnect after the isolation of COVID. With the support of the Scranton Municipal Recreation Authority (SMRA), the first show was born; a free, inclusive celebration of flowers, creativity, and local talent.

Today, the Flower Show features:

  • Outdoor flower competitions in carefully curated categories

  • Art in Bloom at the Everhart Museum, where floral artists create installations inspired by the museum’s artwork

  • A growing marketplace of local vendors, artisans, and gardeners

  • Free admission, activities, and family-friendly fun for everyone

Carol’s goal is simple: to share the joy of growing flowers, celebrate community, and make Nay Aug Park a destination for art and nature lovers alike.

The show continues to grow each year, and with the support of volunteers, judges, and the SMRA, it has become a true community tradition, one that Carol hopes will bring people together for many years to come.
